That carrier is Sprint. The ingredients? The iPhone 4s and Google Voice Number porting.

What makes this so profound? Google Voice truly shines when and only when calls or texts come in to the actual GV number. iPhone users really haven't been able to leverage GV as outbound calls and texts showed the wireless number.

Why was that problematic? Because responses to those calls and texts were direct to the iPhone; effectively leaving GV out of the loop.

No longer. Sprint's long standing relationship with Google an established ability to import your GV phone number (or visa versa) plus ir's newfound relationship with Apple mean the puzzle is complete. Texts dictated to And sent with Siri come from the GV number. Tapping a contact instantly dials and the recipient sees th call coming from the GV number. Conversations can be started hands free via Siri in the car, resumed quietly in a meeting while by tapping on the phone, and then finalized back at the computer from google.com/voice. It feels a bit futuristic.

One unexpected side effect: For good or bad, we are locked into Sprint until other carriers figure this out.

One unexpected oddity: This only seems to week on individual accounts -- neither family nor corporate.

One Fierce Checklist

Mavicor's datacenter operations are now SSAE 16 compliant!
We've been controlling our Windows and OS X machines from iOS devices for quite some time now. Good apps continue to pop up in the App Store on a regular basis. After trying them all we're comfortable declaring one of the originals, LogMeIn Ignition (app link), the winner.

Here's why:

It's fast. Whether you are controlling your workstation over a 3G connection from the train or WLAN from the couch, clicks and apps are responsive.

the one-time $30 proves to be a bargain

The control scheme is unmatched. Some apps attempt to supplant the absent keyboard and mouse with a helper cursor or awkward gestures. After a couple minutes of use you'll see how masterfully the Ignition team leverages iPad/iPhone multi touch to craft a truly usable interface.

It's cheap. At $30 many of the competing apps require less upfront. However, after you add up the +$100 to use GoToMyPC (for example) each year the one-time $30 proves to be a bargain

Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Whether you log into GMail for personal use or business, clicking the Call phone link on the left opens some new doors for reaching someone by voice.

What is it? It's a simple and fast way to call someone directly from your computer. Here's where things get interesting:

It's free. Who knows if it will remain as such though we suspect it will.

The standard calls are high-quality and low latency. This keeps frustration minimal as as you won't have that annoying thing where you and the callee are talking over each other.

It's integrated with your contacts. If you sync your contacts with Google, everyone you know is now just a couple keyboard clicks away from being called.

Enjoy!

At a recent conference, Marilou King, a senior advisor for HHS’s office of General Council Civil Rights Division stated, "OCR has significantly strengthened tools with which to obtain compliance," as reported by Government Health IT. King added, "And the goal of the enforcement program will be to obtain compliance from covered entities and from new regulated entities as HITECH has authorized,"

The OCR is attempting to build consumer confidence in putting their information into an electronic health record. Maintaining this confidence will require that complaints are investigated and that violations are understood and corrected.
