Sending Regulated Data Over Email

Ever witness mass hysteria arising from a coworker or vendor suggesting that they send something confidential over email?  Sometimes this is valid and sometimes it’s not.  Nonetheless, acquiring the ability to send secured email should be on your radar.

This has historically been something that while not too complex, had the potential to send you back to your fax machine or resorting to a hushed phone call to communicate the information in question.  There continues to be industry progress and as Dr. Halamka points out in a recent post secure email transmission is appropriately starting to be taken out of the hands of your staff.

How is this introduced when using best-of-breed email systems like Google Apps Premier?  Well, fortunately, it’s available there too.

However your compliance needs are initiated, be it HIPAA, CMS, JCAHO, SEC, NASD, etc, ensure that you’re talking to your IT experts to understand the road ahead for your organization.
